Student killed by gunman on first day back from summer vacation

UPDATE: The 18-year-old was attacked at a technical school in Orotina. The shooter shot himself, and died Tuesday at Hospital Mexico.
A teenager shot and killed an 18-year-old student at a school before shooting himself on Monday, according to police.
Juan Pablo Salazar was shot at 9:10 a.m. at the Colegio Ricardo Castro in Orotina, a technical high school school about 60 kilometers west of San José, according to the daily La Nación. The alleged 17-year-old assailant later shot himself in the right temple. The shooter was taken to a nearby hospital by Red Cross relief workers. He was only identified by the last name Villegas because he is a minor. He was not a student of the school, authorities said.
Authorities at Hospital Mexico confirmed Villegas' death Tuesday morning due to a brain hemorrhage.
The student was shot in the school's computer room on the first day of classes after a two week summer break. Some students said the shooter entered the room and made everyone leave except the victim.
Education Minister Leonardo Garnier said via Twitter that the event was a tragedy but there is not enough information out yet to comment further on the event.
The attack comes one year after a 17-year-old student killed a principal at a private school in Heredia, north of San José.

1-In my opinion this is a problem of concern because our country is not accustomed to this type of causes ... Mai seem this happened because a psychological problem of the person who shot,because no matter what problems or circumstances,everything can be settled through dialog and not by using violence,much less life-threatening of a human being.
ResponderEliminar2-The mep is acting in a way inappropriate, since in the schools there is very little security for students,allow between any person without knowing who is in reality and what their intentions are,in addition do not review the belongings of the students to know if there is any risk. In my opinion that you should put more guards in the schools,carry a control of persons entering and leaving the college,put a metal detector in the schools and security cameras etc.
3-If,on several occasions due to all the accidents that have gone there are always the fear that this happens in our school.
1. I think that is a big problem because it's not the first time our country suffer this kind of "accidents". Also in my opinion the shooter obviously have a problem maybe in his house or with friends or with his life in general and a reason to did this. I don't see the parents in this situations maybe the shooter didn't have any values in his house maybe his family didn't pay attention and they didn't matter about his son's life.
ResponderEliminar2.The MEP do not do anything, I think that this kind of accidents can occur in any school and I don't see any kind of change in my high school, I think the guards need to pay more attention.
3.Mmm yes. because in this week I hear somethin about a man stay out of the school with a gun I didn't see anything but I heared of that!!

ResponderEliminarFor me this tragedy is something that is becoming common in our society and people do not do anything to try to help, however, we know that it is too dangerous for some schools. How is possible that someone that is not a student of this school can enter without being registered ?..... In my opinion, the Education Minister Leonardo Garnier, is not worried about what happens in high schools today, because these accidents happen again and again. To avoid this kind of accident , guards should ask the certificate of the person who will enter at high school , review the person to confirm that they do not have weapons and of course ask what he or she will do in the high school. I think that in my high school I feel very safe because I know when someone will go to high school is given a necklace that says "visitor" and also the guards ask the certificate of the person
ResponderEliminar1-Well, my perspective is that the student must've had some serious problem to do that, the most shocking thing about it is that the shooter wasn't even a student of the school, i mean, what's happening in our country, we can't go out to the streets without thinking that someone's going to steal something from us... not even the "goverment" is taking it seriusly anymore.

3-No, i've never had any reason to feel insecure, i'm very comfortable in my own skin and i always try to do the best i can, i don't have any "enemies", but i prefer to keep my distance with some people.
1) My perspective is that now days teenagers thinks problems solves by violence but it’s not right if you talk you should do better thinks that if you do stupid things with a gun like kill a boy that don’t do anything bad but well this days it’s so essay to obtain a weapon that’s way people solves the crisis with savagery.
ResponderEliminar2) MEP its just an institution who works to the youthful people can study but if you though there it’s not too many thinks to do well they should help the teacher to be more understanding to the kids but that’s not all, the teen have problems so they should put an a kind of teacher who listen and includes thoughts and problems of adolescents. They soul put a kind of keeper that with a metal detector review all the students of an institution.
3) No, I never feel insecure in my high school but there it’s sometimes another students of other high school that comes to the gates to intimidate students of my school, or the other day a neighbor walking with a shotgun or pistol, the truth I'm not sure but that’s the kind of thinks that make my feel insecure that’s all.

All the institution will have precaution when your people coming high school. The all students to feel safe on the high school they have to know for example:
1- The all institution have the security person
2- The security person must check the all person when coming in the high school
3- The MEP must require the all institution have the security precaution
These recent event in the high school in orotina. Was happen because the institution don’t have security precautions.
I don’t have, but I know in my high school must have security precaution.
It is a terrible incident what happened to both teenagers at this high school. I feel so sad that teenagers have to go through such horrible experiences. High schools are places for us to study and feel safe in order to become great citizens of the country. The MEP needs to implement stricter regulations in every school; they are responsible for making the rules that would protect all of us against any kind of crime or abuse. Until now, the MEP has not guaranteed that students and teachers will be safe in any institution since there is too much crime and vandalism in this country. They should put gun detectors, more police officers, and more alarms. Visitors must be identified with an ID and no one should be permitted to enter a school without being identified properly. Besides, the school guards need to do their work; they need to pay more attention to strangers and check every book bag, backpack, pockets and belongings as they do at the airport before boarding a plane. I approve these kinds of security precautions since they would prevent crime. Finally, I have never felt insecure in my school since I trust the security and the rules. We feel very safe and we know that God blesses us.
ResponderEliminar1.My opinion about this pitiful event is that it`s a big problem because affect a lot of people, since the families of the murdered teenagers to the families that have kids on the highschool because this people are very worry for their relatives. Also, I think that the student who shooted, had a serious pyschological problem, or maybe he had problems in his house with his parents. Probably the parents of the student didn`t teach him the necessary values to have a good lifestyle like the respect and the tolerance.
ResponderEliminar2.I think that the MEP isn`t prepared for this kind of situation because they can`t control each highschool of the country but to feel safer in the highschool some security precautions are: to control the people who come in in the intitution and also check the students backpacks because some of them can carry guns or knifes that can hurt somebody.

ResponderEliminar(unfortunately some people are able to ignore this).What is this world coming to? Murder is wrong, no matter what.Had to have happened terrible situations for the MEP to imposed safety measurements,if they had been in the beginning this awful crimme, would not be happening.
Schools safety has become a matter of prime importance for educators, students and citizens, which is necessary after the shocking series of attacks with guns in schools,I think it's very important identifying potentially violent students and intervening before it becomes in painful situations,and each school should have a written plan to address crisis, describing procedures for responding to a wide range of potential problems, including natural disasters,murders..it's the number one safety measure the MEP should impose in every school and highschool all over Costa Rica.
I have never felt insecure in my highschool.

1. My opinion is that the boy needed help to talk about emotional problems faced by many in life. is something that should not be seen in schools should have more security because you never know when something can happen to anyone.
ResponderEliminar2. The workflow of the MEP is something wrong because their security methods are useless and hardly practiced. Sometimes school staff should inspect the students from time to time, and implement more security to see what kind of objects bring each visitor to the school.

1.First, for me that happened was because the killer had like personal problems about himself, because if you are cool as you are you don’t need to shoot anyone because even though the murdered was a ‘’cheater’’, the other one didn’t have to shoot him ‘cause he could think: ‘’hey he is a layer, that’s why he doesn’t dessert me’’, but against that he decided to kill him.
ResponderEliminar2.Well about MEP’s position, I thing they are not responsible of this, because there are hundreds of students and they cannot be responsible of each one, I thing that the main responsible of this problems are parents, they teach us how to made things, how to be part of this world and how to deal whit our problems, so if students are making this things is because they didn’t have their parents support or love. Some precautions that high schools can have are: have a special ID for students, ought students to show it when you enter or leave the institution, as a surprise check out our bags and lockers …
3.Thanks God I’ve never feel insecure at high school, vice versa I feel kind of protected inside because I know I can have my teachers support.
I think that it is a very delicate topic because the violence and the insecurity in the colleges every time is worse.

Very unfortunate because a human life was lost and more than overcome and was studying to be a professional, and was just starting to live and they bring great pain to their loved ones and family. 2. They should make laws for minors much more stiff and rigid and it does not mean children are not aware that they are violating or taking the life of another person. They should have someone in charge of the safety of highschool if they were given a problem and have a lot of surveillance cameras and review packages for students and have a management who goes to highschool and should discuss their problems with some teacher or psychologist to find a solution. 3. I do not feel unsafe but be attentive and q can be given anywhere.
